Our Story....

I met Eugene in college. (Fall 1990) I didn't like him very much. I'm a Delta. He's a Que. I'm from Queens...he's from Brooklyn. I knew he was from Brooklyn without even asking. He had that 'Brooklyn' thing about him. All hardcore...never smiled....just STANK.

Fast forward to Spring, 2003. I love him dearly. He's the most caring, loving, kind, intelliegent individual I've ever met. He proposes marriage, I accept, and I prepare to plan my wedding day.

I plan my New York, September 2003 wedding with MAJOR difficulty. I lived in Chicago, he lived in Los Angeles. I depended on the internet a great deal for wedding day inspiration. I found NOTHING that represented me or my culture. I run to the newsstand to pick up some wedding porn. You know, one of those magazines that weigh about 25 pounds with about 1100 pages in them? I figured....with all of those pages, I'm SURE there's at least ONE woman of color over a size 6 in a wedding dress in this publication that will help ignite a spark. Still......nothing.

This is how ChocolateBrides was born.

What Have I Done?

What was I thinking? Seriously. What on earth made me think that running a website would be easy? When my husband said that he wanted to launch a magazine based on the same concept as our website, why didn't I discourage him? WHY!!!??!

This blog will document our journey. Sometimes we feel as though we're on top of the world...but then there are days when we are in a serious funk where EVERYTHING will go wrong. Our passion, our determination, and the overwhelming support that we have received from brides from all over the world will keep us motivated.

This is our story....
